I’ll be the first to tell you that plastic toys that make sounds are NOT my favorite. In fact, I dislike them so much, I hide some of my older daughter’s noise making toys in her closet hoping she won’t remember that she has them.
But of course she remembers! She’s 2 1/2 and very bright (don’t we all have oh-so-bright kids!) and the thought hits her one day that, no, she hasn’t seen singing Ernie in quite some time. Where could he be???
Anyway, given my penchant for natural materials, it surprised me when I opened a package from Bright Starts and saw this big, plastic, noisy ball inside for my infant. It’s called the Bright Starts Flexi Ball. Now, I do want to take a moment to say that when I do product reviews, I will always tell you if it is a gift or review copy.
I don’t give out my address willy nilly (really, who does?) so I usually know what I have accepted for review and what I haven’t. I try to say yes to manufacturers whose products I like, because, well, I like things I like. And I don’t like things I don’t like and who wants to write or read a review about a product that the review starts out not liking?
So, it was a complete surprise when I got the jangling ball because, as far as I can remember (and, to be honest, that isn’t that far) I didn’t agree to write a review for them. But, they found me anyway and sent it along and here I am…reviewing it.
As soon as I took it out of the box, I knew I hated it. It jingle jangled and God knows what is in that plastic. But, wouldn’t you know it, my baby girl looked up at me and it and reached out. Yes! She reached out. And, no, she hadn’t reached out before for ANYTHING. Not even me to pick her up. But she reached out for noisy plastic.
Oh boy.
So, not being heartless, I gave it to her thinking, “she’ll be over this in no time.” Ha ha ha ha. Joke is on mama.
It’s months later and she’s still gnawing on that thing. She entwines her clumsy fingers (she’s 6 months), shakes it for all her little arm is worth, rolls it, gums it, shakes it some more. She loves it.
Go figure. So, despite my misgivings, I have to give the Bright Starts Flexi Ball a thumbs-up.
