Breastfeeding your child is a big commitment, and in the earlier months it is a commitment that can require your attention every couple of hours, which doesn’t allow for a lot of time out of the house unless you are willing to nurse in public.
Some of them are referred to as “Hooter Hiders,” while others just plain nursing covers – but whatever they are called, they allow for you to have the freedom to move about town and nurse your baby as needed while accomplishing the day’s tasks – which wasn’t always the case. Read more…
With Earth Day having just passed us by and Spring in the air I’ve been on the lookout for great resources that provide information on the topic of sustainability, lessening my overall environmental “footprint” and ways to remove some of the toxic chemicals that come into our home through cleaning supplies.
Well, Eartheasy is a wonderful site, run by a family that provides all of that information and much, much more. Read more…
I’m a self avowed jeans and tee girl. Seriously, almost every day I wear this. I cannot help myself; it’s an addiction. I know there must be a secret club out there to help us mommy uniform wearing bunch but I have yet to find it…maybe J. Crew or Madewell can sponsor us?!? Oooh, that’d be cool.
How about you join me? Let’s make Stacy and Clinton of What Not To Wear proud and start wearing adorable, easy, comfortable dresses. Get out of the jeans. AND the yoga pants. C’mon, you know you do it. You know you wear yoga pants as real pants. I know I do. And, no, I don’t work out enough to justify them either.
I know, I know, dresses are hard to find…they feel so (ahem) dressy…yada yada yada. But if you can find a good dress source, then choosing to wear something other than jeans and a tee would be super easy! Read more…
Is it bad that I wish these new looks from Giggle would come in my size? I swear, I’d totally wear these adorable dresses for girls if I thought I could. My sister-in-law has a saying: “mutton dresses lamb” for this exact situation. When women (I won’t add ‘of a certain age’) try to dress too young they can look, how should I say, ridiculous.
Now, when I go shopping with her, she’ll come out of the dressing room and simply ask, mutton? With her British accent, it’s beyond endearing. Read more…
Having a baby is a momentous occasion but when it happens, it’s all consuming and it literally takes over every part of your life. And trust me when I say, if you are a first time mom, it will be a little while before you will get back to an hour of time that’s all about you – so take some time before baby arrives and indulge a bit.
Get a haircut
Head to the salon and get those locks trimmed up because when baby arrives, a free hour will be hard to come by. So splurge a little by going to a salon that offers a scalp and neck massage for a bit of additional indulgence. Read more…
With Earth Day this month (April 22nd) we should all be considering how we might lessen our overall impact or “footprint” on the earth and what better way to do that than shopping?!
Hear me out.
When you shop vintage, you aren’t adding to the earth’s waste, you are reusing and that is the important difference in shopping vintage versus heading to the shiny shopping mall and picking up something brand new. Read more…
One of my favorite new fashion icons is Wendy Nguyen. Her Lookbook is always chock full of great fashion ideas, though to be sure, I never look that dressed up in my life. That said, I do always seem to gather good inspiration from her. So, thanks for that Wendy!
I’m headed to the mom conference in Miami in a few weeks and one of the evenings we will all be attending a dinner party on the beach, white attire requested. Now, I love love love the mental image of this. I can’t wait to go. Only, I don’t have anything to wear. Read more…
I talked recently about how quality time with the girls is a must because we all need time away from the kids and an opportunity to let our hair down, but sometimes a night out isn’t really what we’re looking for, and a night in is just the ticket.
So why not play a little Bunco?
The beauty of Bunco is, it lends itself to conversation in that it’s extremely simple and it does not require strategy. It is a game that is based on pure luck – roll the dice, sip your wine and see what happens! Read more…
I just had a facial at La Petit Rose Spa, thanks to my good friend Michelle, and I feel all glowy and amazing. Only, I’m a little frightened, too.
You know that part in a facial where the bright light comes out and your pores get uber-inspected? Well, as Michelle was doing this, she asked me about my skin care routine. I told her what I use – L’Occitane Immortelle Divine Cream, which I love by the way – and she told me about Safecosmetics.org. Read more…
I just entered the regular reusable bag user phase of my life. I’m sad to say that I still forget them in my trunk and, not to mention that they are so bulky that when placed in my cart, they take up loads of room. Add in my three kids and where do I have space in my trunk again?
Enter the Envirosax pouches….stylish, colorful and by having two of these, I cover the grocery load (two standard grocery bags per reusable bag) and I’m doing my part for the environment. Outstanding! Read more…
Just yesterday, a good friend of mine went to India to visit her parents. So sweet! She took along her whole family, because of course she did – it’s a visit to the grandparents! On a 20 hour ordeal, though. Their first flight was 15 hours alone! Not to mention multiple connections and then a drive. With 3 kids! Urgh.
And also, if you’re not gasping yet, lemme throw the kicker out at ya. She doesn’t watch TV. So, that means the children don’t watch TV. They don’t have an iPad with apps, they don’t have computer games, they don’t even have headphones to plug into the airplane’s TV. I’m in awe of her spirit. Read more…

One of the things I most love about France is the effortless sense of elegance, even in every day items. Oh oui, oui, ma cher, how I’d love to be that effortless. And chic. Alas, I’m little ole’ American me, so it’s not to be. But. I can pretend!
There is a store in Paris – and if you are headed to that wonderful city you MUST go to this store – called Merci. It’s just amazing. I could have filled a whole separate luggage bag full of their offerings. I didn’t. But I could have. Read more…
