Get Off the Couch and Get Moving with lolo Apps

I am the first to admit that I don’t have a lot of time for working out.

Or much motivation for that matter. In fact, I typically loathe it. But I do it because I know it’s good for me and even though I have to drag myself out of the house, I do feel (and sleep!) much better on those days.

Plus, my vet said my beloved husky dog needs to lose 10 lbs, so he’s motivation too.

So what have I been using that finally got me off the couch? The Ultimate 5K app from lolo. And I have to say, I’ve actually started to look forward to my runs.

That’s right, I said it. I look forward to them now! Crazy, right? Here’s what I love about the Lolo apps.

First of all, through the awesomeness of beat-sync technology, you can use your own iPod music (or download 15 of their tempo-perfect songs free!) and the apps will change the tempo to adjust to your pace. Or, set it so you are pushed a little bit with a faster tempo.

Then, using GPS technology, you can get an accurate distance on your run. Plus, while you’re running, Olympian Jeff Galloway (specific to the race apps) will give you little tidbits of training advice. AND, best of all, it operates using the run-walk-run method so you don’t have to beat yourself up when you start walking — it actually tells you to walk! Love it!

At the end of your run, you get a summary of your workout, including the calories you’ve burned, the distance you’ve gone, and the pace you ran at. This is a 3-day-per-week program, and each day you run just a bit farther.

The 5K app includes a 7-week training program to get you ready for your first 5K and another 7-week training program to improve your 5K time. You can use it inside or on a treadmill — the choice is yours.

For someone that hates running, this was a must try. And you know what? I don’t hate it so much anymore.

Lolo also offers an elliptical training app, BeatBurn treadmill app, an Ultimate 10K app, and just recently a Boot Camp app (my very next purchase by the way!!).

Now, I can’t vouch for any of the apps except for the 5K, but I can say that all get very high ratings; in fact, the newly-released Boot Camp app gets nearly 5 stars. Reviews have commented on the ease of customization and the fact that you can get a great strength training workout right in your own living room (or anywhere for that matter). Since you don’t have to use weight equipment (many of the exercises use your body weight for resistance training. I’ll soon be headed to New York City for 4 days and I’m psyched to have this going with me!

Check out all the lolo apps at their website and be sure to use the interactive demos. Very cool.

Wondering how much an app like this might cost? I paid $4.99 for my 5K app, but I just peeked at iTunes and all of the Lolo apps are currently priced at $1.99 to celebrate the launch of the new iPhone.

You make it sound almost easy! I am tempted to get off the computer and head out the door for a short run now myself!

I’ve tried couch to 5K but it would be nice to try something different. Apps are so helpful to keep myself accountable!

I don’t feel much like running now, with me being pregnant and all, but this does sound motivational, to say the least. I can bet on good music to get the most lazy of us to flex our knees- and heart muscles.

@Henny, congratulations! let me know how it all goes (the pregnancy that is), with or without the running ;)
