Grocery Delivery for Moms

Posted on Aug 10, 2010 by No Comments

I’ve been looking for ways to simplify my life. I used to love grocery shopping – fingering all the fresh produce, dreaming about what I could cook up. But now it’s all about speed. How fast can I shop and what will make a fast dinner? Not exactly fun. Add to that 2 children and the task becomes a chore to be dreaded. So now I order in.

I found Safeway.com in our area to be among the best (and available) options. I hear Albertsons delivers as well. Check out Delivery.com and you’ll find all sorts of things that will deliver in your area.

But back to having groceries delivered. This is what I’ve learned. Ordering all paper products, cleaning supplies and other non-perishables are a no-brainer. You can simply select what you want online. Beware that you order the right amount because sometimes this isn’t as easy as you’d think. You could wind up with 100 bags of napkins instead of 1 bag of 100 napkins. I speak from experience.

Also, if you trust the produce from the store you decide to order from then chances are you’ll get good quality. I mean, it’s easier for the grocery store to keep you as a customer than to attract a new one, so they’ll probably choose the good stuff. And, you can always call to complain :-) I’ve opted to get our produce from a local organic farm which delivers (fancy me) but that’s just because I can and I like to. And they have yummy prepared meals, too. Talk about easy.

Schedule the delivery a few days in advance to get the cheaper delivery rate. Or, if you’re last minute like me remember that your time (both driving to and fro, shopping AND schlepping) is invariably worth more than the delivery charge. Not to mention your sanity.

Then, just find the time to log on and shop! Imagine – grocery shopping before bed in your jammies!
