Gray Is The New Black (in the Home)
Posted on 04. Feb, 2010 by Kate in Home

Does that statement actually apply if it is in reference to the home and NOT a fashion trend? I dunno. I think the appropriate phrase I’m looking for is “gray is the new beige” but beige is just plain old boring and who needs more boring?
Bottom line: from all I’m seeing, gray is the “it” color in home design right now (not to mention nail polish, but that’s a different post!)
I love gray, but it can often be very, very depressing. Truly. Like the wrong shade of blue. You might think I’m crazy on this one (and, well, yeah, I sound a little “touched” as my mom would say) but it’s true. Color affects mood and, in some, it affects us more than a little. That’s why you gotta be careful what gray you pick.
Or, better yet, pick a gray and then pair it with a pop of a vibrant, cheery color like purple or bright orange. Not traffic cone orange or neon, but like tangerine orange.
Think one gray wall with a big, violet orchid sitting on a table next to a couch with a violet throw…now we’re talking excitement! And, if you already have the neutral couch and table, then how hard is it to place a flower and a big throw in the room and paint a wall? My kind of re-decorating.
