Along with considering taking flu shots this winter, consider this: there might just be some common sense things you can do to stay healthy. Do sleep, ventilate your home and eat garlic and mushrooms. Don’t over use hand sanitizer, eat too many comfort foods or run yourself ragged.

As the days get shorter and night approaches faster, think about trying to get to sleep earlier. It’s your body’s natural way to fight off germs.

Fresh air is good – if it’s just too cold to go outside, then be sure to ventilate your home to flush out the bad, polluted air. Air that is trapped inside can be more polluted that you think.

Pay attention to the food you eat. Garlic and mushrooms are natural germ fighters and immunity boosters. Broth helps the body fight off infection after you’ve already contracted something. Comfort foods, while, well, comforting, offer little in the way of nutritional value.

Finally, there are good bacteria and bad bacteria. Hand sanitizer can kill ALL bacteria. Washing with warm water and soap will often do the job better.
