Here’s a shout out to the San Francisco Public Libraries. We just came back from a sing-along for toddlers and the children’s reading room. What fun for a foggy morning! I don’t know about the public libraries around the country, but I think most systems at least try to have some fun activities for kids.
Check out yours! We actually visit our local library a lot – they have tons of puzzles, crayons and paper, and of course lots of books for curious minds (and hands). And it’s free! Just a reminder for the next time you’re stick and home and don’t know what to do with your kid.
Books are great resources for kids of all ages, but in this time of internet accessibility, do kids really turn to books to learn? Probably so given all the great books out there for kids to read. Since my daughter is still a baby, she mainly has board books, though we’ve been reading to her since she was born. It seems that the more books we have lying around, the more she picks them up to read them. That and she sees us reading all the time – newspapers and books! Our favorite books to read to her are the Pigeon series, by Mo Willems. She just loves The Pigeon Wants a Puppy!
