Two books on the new releases wall caught my eye: Art for Baby and Night, Night Little Pookie.

Art For Baby is a collection if black and white images by top modern artists like Keith Haring, Damien Hirst and Takashi Murakami. The drawings have been selected to enhance baby’s awareness of the world around them. If you are a contemporary art fan and have a new baby, then check out this book! I plan on getting it for my new little one once she pops out.

However, my 22 month old just LOVES Sandra Boynton. We have almost all of her books and I’m really stoked to see that she’s come out with yet another book, Night, Night Little Pookie. Pookie, I’m sure, has something in store for mom and daughter at bedtime – can’t wait to find out what it is.

This is me driving to the bookstore…or ordering from Amazon:

Coloring is a rite of passage and every child is allowed to make up his or her own designs to color – in or outside of the lines! But, if you have a soft spot for contemporary art and want to expose your child to artists, then check out this cool coloring book from Crown Point Press: Between The Lines: A Coloring Book of Drawings By Contemporary Artists.

It’s got 54 line drawings by some of today’s best known contemporary artists, like Vito Acconci, Keith Haring, Sol LeWitt, William Wegman to name but a few. Plus – and this is the really cool part – there are extra pages (kinda like a bonus track on your favorite CD) of vibrant, original stickers made by the likes of Ryan McGinnis and Assume Vivid Astro Focus. (BTW, even if you don’t know the artists, the stickers and drawings are really awesome!)

You can order it online or, if you happen to be in our neck of the woods, they are located in San Francisco just around the corner from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art at 20 Hawthorne St.
