Citing a recent study, the Environmental Working Group published an article on the harmful effects of extended cell phone use, especially in children. I know what you’re thinking – don’t all kids actually use cell phones as phones these days? But really, what do we know about exposure to radiation from cell phones?

Apparently those cell phone users who have talked on mobile phones for 10 or more years have experienced an increased risk for brain tumors. Think back – 10 years isn’t that long ago…I don’t think I had a cell phone then, but shortly thereafter I sure did.

As for kids, many children go to school with cell phones now as a safety precaution. In fact, it’s more common for a child to have a cell phone than to not have a cell phone. Admittedly, their fingers to the “talking” now, as texting seems to be as popular as talking for young people.

Cell phones are a part of our world now and there is no going back…but I’ll be damned if I won’t think about brain tumors the next time I complain about my hands free device. Looks like I’ll be getting more and more familiar with that piece of equipment in the near future.
