Time Change Affecting Toddler’s Sleep Habits

Who is the person responsible for telling my child the time has changed and WHERE IS HE? I can’t take this much longer. I know we’re spoiled – we have a little one who wakes up between 7 and 8 am normally.

For some, I realize, that is decadently late. But these last three days have been brutal with a 6 am wake up time OR EARLIER.

It’s insane. Nothing makes my daughter go back to sleep. She thinks night night is over. Literally, she wakes up saying, “all done night night.” I’ve tried laying down with her, feeding her a bottle, singing, reading, ignoring her…nothing works. She’s bright eyed and bushy tailed, eager to start the day.

And I’m soooooo tired.

I ran into another mother today strolling around the park with her little ones in tow looking about as exhausted as I was. We got to talking – of course we did, two mothers commiserating. She said her kids are putting her through the same wringer. I’m sure we’re not alone out there.

So here’s to all those tired parents struggling to get through the days after the brilliant strategy of the time change. I mean, why is it still relevant? We’re not organizing our day around the sun anymore, so why do this crazy thing?

Another cup of coffee, if you don’t mind…

After each of the time changes, I think to myself….next time we’ll start chipping away at the bed/wakeup time 10-15 minutes each day leading up to it.

    Of course, we never do.

And no, you can’t complain – ours normally wakes up at 6-6:30, so he’s been bounding in at 5am sharp. There is no reasoning with him. He’s up. Deal with it.
