Weekly Recall Reminder

Shockingly, again I have a baby product that has been recently recalled! A couple of weeks ago I found out that the Maxi Cosi infant car seat that I own was recalled. This time it’s the BabyBjorn bouncer chair, though not in the color they recalled. Time to check again to see if anything else might have been recalled…here are three other items on the US Consumer Product Safety Commission‘s website that stood out to me:

1. eebee’s “Have a Ball” Adventures Cloth Books have been recalled by Sterling Publishing Co. Inc. due to strangulation hazard with the small cloth ball attached to a string which children use to complete activities in the book. The books are intended for children ages 9 to 36 months. Located on a white tag attached to the book look for ISBN 13:978-1-4027-5771-6. Other eebee’s Adventures cloth books are not included in this recall. The books were sold at book and toy stores nationwide and Internet retailers from June 2008 through June 2009 for about $15. If you have one, you should immediately take the book away from your child and return the product to the place of purchase for a refund.
For more information, contact Sterling Publishing Co. Inc. at (800) 367-9692 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or email the firm at custservice@sterlingpublishing.com

2. Target’s Circo Booster Seats have been recalled due to fall hazard involving the booster seat restraint buckle. It can open unexpectedly, allowing a child to fall from the chair and be injured. Target has received eight reports of the booster seat buckles opening unexpectedly, including three reports of bruises.
Look for manufacture date codes printed on the backside of the seat next to the consumer warning information XJ0811, XJ0812, XJ0901, and XJ0902. The plastic booster seat is blue with green trim and has white straps. If you have this (or bought it for Grandma’s house or other travel purposes), you should immediately stop using the booster seat and return the item to the nearest Target store to receive a full refund.
For additional information, contact Target at (800) 440-0680 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s Web site at www.target.com

3. BabyBjörn® Babysitter Balance and BabyBjörn® Babysitter Balance Air bouncer chairs by BabySwede LLC has been recalled due to Laceration Hazard (yikes!). Apparently small, sharp metal objects found in the padded area of the bouncer chair can protrude, posing a laceration hazard to children. These bouncing chairs for babies have a red safety latch on the height adjustment mechanism and a plastic footrest with the BabyBjörn® logo. Recalled models and colors are:
BabyBjörn® Babysitter Balance:
Black/Red; Model #009064US
Black/Silver; Model #009065US
Dark Blue/Blue; Model #009066US
Brown/Beige; Model #009069US
BabyBjörn® Babysitter Balance Air:
White; Model 009001US
Baby product retailers and various mass merchants nationwide including online retailers and catalogs from September 2008 through July 2009 sold the chairs. The Babysitter Balance sold for about $170, and the Babysitter Balance Air for about $190. While there have been no incidents or injuries reported, you should immediately stop using both Babysitter Balance and Babysitter Balance Air bouncer chairs and contact BabySwede LLC for instructions on how to return the recalled products for inspection and relabeling. If any metal pieces are found through inspection, you will be provided with a new BabyBjörn® Babysitter Balance product. Presumably one that won’t lacerate your baby.
For additional information, please contact BabySwede, LLC toll-free at (866) 424-0200 anytime, or visit the firm’s Web site at www.babyswede.com
I’ll continue to report on common baby products that have been recalled as I find them. Till then, be safe!
