What To Do When Your Kid Shoves A Carrot Up Her Nose

Wait for her to sneeze! Sounds like a bad joke, doesn’t it? Well, it was our dinner time fiasco/entertainment last night.

Our darling little two year old decided that her carrot would be best going up her nose instead of in her mouth. She’s obsessed with her nose right now, which, I know, is just a phase. A phase I hate. I truly hate to see her little finger up her nose, but there it is, almost all day, hanging out digging for gold as they say.

How could we let her shove a carrot up her nose you ask? Well, it’s easier than you think. My husband and I finally had time to actually speak to each other over our dinner and were deep in some mindless conversation about god knows what now. Since we’re both so sleep deprived, it’s hard to hold a conversation let alone remember one that’s already happened.

So there we were, gabbing away and Sophie says, “it’s stuck.”

I say, “what’s stuck, baby?” looking around her thinking her legs and arms are all moving freely, no teddy bears are shoved anywhere, no baby bunnies are pushed into tight corners (she loves her baby bunnies – they are dolls, don’t worry!). Then she says, “carrot.”

Huh?

Then up goes her finger into her nostril. To be fair to her, her nostril is the perfect size for her finger.

And there we have it, the carrot up the nose thing. I got a flashlight to make sure she wasn’t yanking my chain (she does that a lot now that her new baby sister has arrived – who is, to Sophie’s dismay, not a doll and not leaving). Sure enough, way up there was the tip of an orange carrot.

Just as I was about to panic and get my tweezers, she sneezed. You guessed it…out came the carrot, flying out of her nose. Thank the Lord because, truth be told, I have no idea what to do when you kid shoves a carrot up her nose!
